This book was trying too hard. I gave it two stars because the story was way too far fetched for me to buy into. Our protagonist, Emily, is in need of a fresh start. She's fleeing a life that has created some serious demons for her. She is a mental rollercoaster, living on sleeping pills because of this past trauma. She moves into an apartment in which the previous tenant supposedly up and left abruptly. Emily becomes suspicious when she finds out the woman was in an abusive relationship and left all her belongings in the apartment. The thought she just up and left doesn't sit right with Emily, so she takes matters into her own hands and investigates. This book will lead you through murky waters of crazed doctors, patient experimentation, and the supposed sinister underbelly of a hospice hospital.I was okay with the plot right away. The character development was on point, the atmosphere dark and tense--I was ready for an awesome thriller. What I got was a completely not believable journey. I won't let loose any spoilers for anyone that wants to read this, but I felt really let down by the way the author wants us to believe the scenarios painted can actually happen. I understand this was a work of fiction, but there were so many instances where I found myself calling bull#$$%. The plot was not credible to me and that, in turn, turned me off to this book. I won't be reading the others in this series. After reading many reviews I thought I would enjoy this book......to the contrary, this may be the worst book I have read in a long long time! I do not know where to begin other than say, do not waste your time when there are so very many wonderful mysteries and thrillers out there. The whole list of characters were totally unbelievable, & the story line so far fetched. I finished it because I always finish a book, hoping it will improve.
